Easter is approaching quickly and though it is later this year than some years in ways it is approaching quickly. In GZ Easter is not advertised or commercialized like Christmas can be here. I still walk into shops with Santa faces on the doors and Merry Christmas written on the windows. As I prepare for Easter I have been reading a pamphlet that I picked up several years ago at the little church that we attended while living in the states. The pamphlet is called Mary Magdalene Beloved and Loving the author is Walt Wangerin Jr.
This writing struck me at a time when I really needed it several years ago. It has become a great resource for me as Easter approaches each year and also when I need to be reminded of the special gift that was given to us by God. The Gift of his Son who died for us.... It is quite awe inspiring when you think about that... Christ died for me! It really brings me to my knees when I think of it in that way.
I don't mean to preach in this post that is not my intention, but as Easter approaches I need to have the spiritual side of myself and my family fed. Yes we also color Easter eggs and things are left for Ex-pat son from the Easter Bunny, kids need to have some fantasy too. However the true meaning of Easter is also taught in our home just as the true meaning of Christmas is taught. So as I have been shopping for little goodies to put in a basket for Easter morning and Chocolates are brought from Hong Kong, the true meaning of Easter is very close in our minds.
I also picked up a book while we were in Malaysia over the Chinese New Year, it is called The Expected One by Kathleen McGowan. I have been reading some other books and picked this one up out of the pile of books that I have not read yet... I am enjoying the book, it seems to be a good book for me to read during this lenten season, leading up to Easter.
