Here is the Glogg recipe I make each year for our Cup of Cheer party. It went over well again this year but I made so much I have some to drink for the next couple of days. No problem as I write this recipe out I am sipping a nice warm cup.
Swedish Glogg
250 ml black currant or Lingonberry syrup
1 litre of red wine
5-7 cardamom pods
4-7 cloves
1-2 cinnamon sticks
1 small piece of fresh ginger
150 gm sugar ( optional )
Vodka ( optional to be added just before serving as much or as little as you like.)
Tie the spices into some cheesecloth. Put all of the above ( except the Vodka and sugar) in a large pot and let it steep for 3-4 hours.
Then warm the wine, Do NOT BOIL! Lower flame. I test for sweetness and kick at this point. Then I add some or all of the sugar if needed. I also add some Vodka at this point to give it a little extra kick!
100gm raisins
100gm almonds blanched peeled and chopped
You can serve with raisins and almonds in the cup.
