Sick Kid

Expat son has been sick since before we left our fun filled vacation in Thailand. A day and a half before we left Thailand he started complaining about his ear hurting. I chalked that up to water in the ear from all the swimming. By the time we headed for the airport on our travel day home he was quite uncomfortable, luckily I knew there was a pharmacy in the airport and that is the first place we headed. After buying some ear drops and administering them I quickly gave him an adult strength Ibuprofen to help with pain and to anti inflame whatever might be inflamed in his ear. We arrived home late on Sunday evening and the decision had been made that we would be at the clinic when it opened Monday morning, and we were.
Doctor diagnosed an ear canal and middle ear infection and he was put on antibiotics the same ear drops i purchased in the airport Sofradex and nose drops. On top of that Ibuprofen to help with pain and inflammation.  We went back to the doctor the middle of the week as Expat Son was still experiencing pain and was running a low grade fever as well, we were told to keep doing what we were doing but I could give an oral decongestant as well so I added that into the regime. Perhaps the fever was caused by something viral.  By the this past weekend Expat son was well again, no fever,no pain, and ready to go he had a sleepover and had a great time playing Friday and Saturday. Sunday was spent more quietly during the day and he went out to play for a couple hours in the late afternoon. We had dinner and shortly after dinner Expat Son started vomiting and running a fever low grade but, it was beginning to climb a bit, and he was up all night vomiting every hour.  Monday morning I called the clinic made a appointment and had to enlist help from Expat husband to take son to the clinic. I had to be at the University to enroll in my class so could not make the trip. Not a problem the driver came and picked up Expat Son, I bundled him in the backseat of the car with pillow and bucket to barf in, if needed, and they headed to the office to pick up Hubby. They arrived at the clinic and the prognosis this time after a blood test was that Expat Son picked up a bacterial infection in his stomach.Apparently he ate or drank something bad that Expat Hubby and I did not eat. He was given a shot for the vomiting and put on antibiotics again. Then to add insult to injury had to have his temperature taken rectally since the ear thermometer reading was invalid it said he did not have a temperature, and the doctor could feel his body was with fever. Expat Son survived all of that and I was able to meet my boys at Hubby's office and Son and I headed home.  Expat son has been home all week and has been quite miserable! On top of that he was supposed to go to Beijing with his class tomorrow and we made the decision that he will not go, despite the fact that he still wants to goand has begged an pleaded He is not 100 percent and he still is recovering.  We have pointed this out and talked to him about what could happen if he went to Beijing and had a relapse. HE understood, and was quite mature about the whole thing I think still feeling awful has helped him realize we are doing this for his own good. He will have the opportunity next year to go to Beijing again with his class, so he has that to look forward to as well.

I have been up to a whole lot of taking care of my baby boy, and making soup which fall under the previous.

Get better soon Expat Son! It is so sad to see you not well!
